Appstore Ratings and Reviews

Navigate ratings and reviews in the Selling Partner Appstore.

Appstore ratings and reviews can help sellers decide if an application (app) is right for them. Sellers who are verified users of an app can leave ratings and reviews for that app in the Selling Partner Appstore. Sellers can also choose to leave ratings and reviews through broadcast channels such as blog posts or press releases.

Important

You cannot target or solicit reviews from individual selling partners and you cannot offer incentives for leaving a review.

Amazon calculates an app's star ratings using a machine learning model that incorporates multiple variables, rather than a raw data average.

The following policies govern activities related to ratings and reviews:

Request reviews

You are not allowed to target requests to individual users. If you want to request reviews for your app, you can do so with more general correspondence, such as a press release. All app review request correspondence must be approved. Requests that do not adhere to the following protocol are not reviewed and will not receive a response.

To request reviews of your application:

  • Draft the communication you want to send: This is typically in the form of a newsletter, forum post, or blog post.

  • Submit the communication for review and approval: Submit your communication draft as a Word document to [email protected] at least two weeks before the desired release date.

When you submit your communication for review:

    • Use the subject line: Selling Partner Appstore: [Insert company name].
    • Clearly note your desired release date.
    • Clearly note your distribution audience and plans.

    Important

When you solicit reviews from selling partners, you must follow all Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Guidelines. For example, do not ask for reviews only from selling partners you think will provide positive reviews. Do not offer incentives or conditions for leaving a review.

  • Receive feedback and approvals: Amazon reviews your communication and provides feedback through tracked changes.

    • If you agree with the edits, accept the changes, add the word "final" to the file name, and return the revised draft by reply email. Include your agreement to the changes stated within the email.
    • If you do not agree with the edits, accept the changes you find acceptable, track any additional changes, and respond on the same email chain. This is your second and final round of edits.
  • Issue the communication: After you get approval from Amazon, you can issue your communication.

Submit reviews

To leave a review, selling partners use a link on the app's detail page. Only verified app users can review an app. An app user becomes a verified user of that app after regularly using it to call its APIs; this usually takes about a month.

To leave a review on the Selling Partner Appstore, a selling partner must have Admin or View and Edit rights and either be the primary user or have permissions granted by the primary user.

To change permissions settings:

  1. Have the primary user navigate to the gear icon in the top right of their Seller Central homepage.
  2. Choose User Permissions and Manage Permissions.
  3. Choose View & Edit (next to Selling Partner Appstore).

A review is typically published within two weeks. If you don't see the review after this time period, it’s possible that the review didn't meet Community Guidelines or was submitted in an unsupported language.

For assistance with reviews and ratings, contact Developer Support.

If a selling partner is having trouble submitting their review, ensure that:

  • They're signed in to their Seller Central account: Only signed-in selling partners can leave reviews for apps.
  • They're a verified user of the app they're trying to review: Sellers can authorize and register for the app through the detail page.
  • They're eligible to leave a review: It usually takes about a month of app use to become a verified user of that app.
  • They have the proper permissions to leave a review or rating: Users must have Admin or View and Edit rights to leave reviews.

Report fake reviews

If you believe that a review or rating has been submitted in violation of the Amazon guidelines, you can report it by selecting the Report abuse link near the review.

In your report, include the reason you believe the rating or review violates the guidelines. You can also email Amazon Community.
